Ames is located in central Iowa, under an hour drive from the capital city of Des Moines.
Highway 30 and Interstate 35 intersect in Ames.

By Air:

Des Moines International Airport
(45-50 minutes from Ames)

Airport Shuttle

There will be a shuttle available to and from the airport (may involve a $10-$15 fee). The shuttle will run roughly every two hours on Wednesday 11-5, and if enough demand exists, one trip later in the evening. The shuttle will return participants to Des Moines Saturday morning, and if enough demand, one trip Friday evening. In Ames:

CyRide (the local public transportation system) reaches the majority of the town. The Ames City Council has voted to make fares free for the summer.

Free parking is available at Scheman conference building.

Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) is a longstanding tradition in Iowa. Bicyclists dip the back tire in the Missouri river to begin the ride and end by dipping their front tire in the Mississippi.
